5 ways to get back into work mode

Get back into work mode with H&W

Now that we've made it through the first full week of January, it is officially back to normal after the festivities of Christmas and New Year. You may have thought that last week was the hardest to get through, but you've probably found it difficult to get back into work mode this week after having a weekend off.

Luckily, there are ways that you can get your head in the game and stop finding your morning wake-up call and work day so painful. This could help you adjust to your routine once again and just get on with what you need to get done during the week.

Here are our five top tips for getting back into work mode:

Avoid lie-ins

After a busy work week that seems to drag on for twice as long as it should, it can be tempting to avoid getting out of bed on Saturday and instead opt for a lie-in. While an hour or two won't make too much difference to your sleep pattern, staying in bed for too long can actually do more harm than good.

Your sleep pattern can actually be affected by lying in at the weekend, meaning you stay up and sleep in until later. This means that getting to sleep earlier on Sunday night in order to be up with your early alarm can be difficult.

It is a good idea to set an alarm at the weekend so you get a mini lie-in that won't leave you needing more sleep come Monday morning. This will help you be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when you have to get back to work, and generally just leave you feeling more refreshed.

Start the morning with a shower

One of the easiest ways to wake up and feel ready to face the day is to start your day with a refreshing shower. Even if you don't wash your hair every day, simply stepping into the shower for a few minutes in the morning can help wash away sleep and get you ready to head to work.

You can make your shower even more effective by opting for a refreshing and bright body wash. Our Green Tea and Grapefruit body wash is the perfect thing for leaving your skin clean and scented, as well as waking you up.

To further enhance the effect, team your body wash with a body lotion in the same fragrance to layer up the scent and ensure you really make the most of all the benefits.

Slow-release energy breakfast

Rather than relying on caffeine or sugar to provide you with enough energy to get through the day - neither of which are very healthy - make sure you have a good breakfast to set you up for work. Foods that provide slow-release energy are the best options, as they are filling and will keep you going for longer.

You've probably found it difficult to get back into work mode this week

Things like oats, porridge, banana, natural yoghurt and eggs provide you with slow-release energy. These will leave you feeling full until lunch time, cutting down on the need to snack, and help you focus better once you get into work.

If you still get hungry, avoid snacking on unhealthy foods and instead opt for fruit and vegetables, or things like roasted chickpeas or nuts. These are better for you and will help you feel re-energised without affecting your health.

Fresh scent boost

If you feel yourself lagging during the day, it could be a good idea to have something to hand that can help to re-energise you quickly. Fragrance is great for this, as a burst of fresh scent can immediately make a difference, leaving your body and mind feeling more energised.

While you can't really light a scented candle at your desk, you can enjoy a spritz of one of our luxury room mists. Pop a bottle of Wild Lemongrass or Olive and Fig room mist on your desk so you can enjoy a spray around your desk when you are struggling to get into work mode.

Not only will this benefit you, your colleagues will also be able to enjoy the positive effect.

Get a good night's sleep

Of course, none of the above tips will help you get ready for work if you haven't had a good night's sleep. You should make sure you're doing what you can to get some restful sleep, as this will leave you raring to go the next day.

To help you get to sleep, it is a good idea to give yourself time to wind down in the evening to reduce your stress levels. This will help you drop off quicker and ensure your sleep isn't interrupted with worries about the day ahead.

As well as avoiding phone, tablet and laptop screens for the hour before bed - which have been found to interrupt sleep patterns - you should do something to help you relax. Lighting a candle that helps you chill out - such as our Lavender candle in a glass - or running a bath with one of our moisturising bath melts could help you feel ready for your bed.

Following all of these steps could help you feel ready to face the working week and make it much easier to make it to the weekend.
