It seems as though new 'wonder creams' that claim to banish all of your wrinkles and give you a magical youthful glow are constantly being released. With one fad after another hitting the shelves, it can be hard - and expensive - to keep up.

What's more, some products contain chemicals you might not be too sure about, but you don't need to use questionable ingredients to keep your skin looking healthy and young. Instead, try these tactics:

Drink plenty of water

Drinking lots of water is one of the easiest ways to keep your skin looking youthful, but it's one that people often forget about. Your skin is your body's largest organ - that's a whole lot of cells, and cells need water to function properly!

If your body is well-hydrated, these cells will be able to use some of their energy to keep skin looking smooth. When you let yourself get dehydrated, skin cells will be concentrating their efforts elsewhere and this could leave your skin feeling dry and flaky while also looking wrinkled.

It's recommended that you drink eight glasses of water each day to keep hydrated - it's important to up this in the summer when it's hotter so your skin doesn't dry out too much in the heat.

Follow a healthy, balanced diet

It's not just what you drink that can help your skin to look healthy and youthful, but also what you eat. Vitamin C keeps skin looking radiant, so make sure you're eating plenty of fruit and veg that contains this, such as oranges, sweet potatoes, strawberries and blueberries.

Antioxidants like selenium are also great for the skin - these are naturally found in Brazil nuts so having a handful of these for a snack each day can help to give your skin a boost.

A healthy, balanced diet is something you need to be prepared to follow all of the time if you want your skin to stay looking youthful for years to come. Yo-yo dieting can impact the skin's elasticity, making wrinkles more visible.

Use a soap that's kind to your skin

Cleansing your skin is essential for keeping it in good condition, but it's important to remember that some products contain ingredients that can strip its natural oils. They might smell lovely and come in pretty packaging, but some can leave your skin in a worse condition than before.

Instead, make sure you're using a good soap that contains natural ingredients. Our Traditional Soaps are handmade with plant oils, flower extracts and natural colourings, which combine to create gentle cleansers that won't strip your skin but will moisturise it beautifully instead, helping to keep it hydrated and youthful-looking.

For a zingy refreshing burst of fragrance to get you going in the morning, choose our Tea Tree Soap or opt for our floral and fruity Queen of the Nile Soap, which contains goat's milk for extra nourishment for your skin.

Don't underestimate the power of moisturising

Lastly, never underestimate the benefits of regularly moisturising your skin for keeping you looking young and healthy. While our handmade soaps are all lovely and moisturising, it's important to use a Body Lotion after your bath or shower to lock all of that moisture in and keep your skin glowing.

This will also leave your skin smelling beautiful throughout the day - try our nourishing Citrus & Lavender Body Lotion for a gorgeous burst of zest and floral notes that will leave you feeling - and looking - as fresh as a daisy.

Remember that your hands are exposed to the elements more than the rest of your body during the colder months, and these are also the part of the body that tend to show age before anywhere else. Keep one of our Hand Creams in your bag and apply it regularly to keep them moisturised and looking youthful.
