Top tips on how to keep your tan

You've just returned from a dreamy summer holiday and are basking in the warm glow that comes from long days on the beach and sunshine on your skin. It’s only natural to want the feeling of relaxation and your tan to last as long as possible, so what can you do to help keep that vibe?

Swap hot baths for cool showers

We are big fans of a long soak in the bath here at Heyland & Whittle, but on this occasion it’s not recommended. The hot water can be dehydrating to your skin, causing it to peel, so it’s a good idea to have a shower instead. Turn the temperature down a little too, so your shower doesn’t have a similar effect.

Gently exfoliate

The build-up of dead skin cells can make your tan look duller, so you want to gently remove these without depleting your tan. Massage one of our Luxurious Body Scrubs into your skin during the shower to come out with your summer glow fully restored.

Take your pick from Greentea & Grapefruit, Neroli & Rose, Citrus & Lavender and Wild Lemongrass to smell wonderful post-holiday. Exfoliating once a week should be enough to give maximum effect.

Moisturise your heart out

Moisturising is the most effective way to keep your tan looking at its best and you really can’t apply too much lotion to your skin. The formula used in Heyland & Whittle’s Body Lotions includes vitamin E to boost cell renewal, glycerin to hydrate your skin and coconut oil to help it feel nourished.

Prevent your post-holiday glow from fading too fast with our top tips on keeping your tan and enjoy the rest of summer feeling great.

Match the fragrance to your Body Scrub to build up the layers of scent or opt for Clementine & Prosecco, which has a seemingly magic power to transport you back to your holiday, if even just for a moment.

Hydrate from within

Keeping your skin hydrated shouldn’t just be done by applying moisture to the outside of your body, drinking water can help a lot too. Keeping your levels topped up will prolong the life of those tanned skin cells and keep the skin looking healthy and smooth.

Boost your beta-carotenes

It’s long been said that you are what you eat, but it’s a mantra worth following when it comes to keeping your tan. Foods high in beta-carotene, like carrots, sweet potatoes and mangoes, have been found to promote glowing skin. An easy way to remember which foods to consume more of is the fact they tend to be the same colour as the sunshine.

Capitalise on the contrast

Once you’ve done everything to keep your tan vibrant you can make it appear even more glowing by wearing white. The contrast between your skin and a crisp white shirt, for example, will help give the impression of a darker hue. It’s an old technique, but works like a charm.
