Top ways to keep cool this summer

If we're lucky, this summer will bring with it plenty of hot, sunny days. While we'll all be happy to see some actual summer weather, the chances are we'll all moan about how hot it is - this is the standard British response, after all.

While we can't do anything about the weather, we can help you stay cool and comfortable on hot summer days. This means you'll be better able to enjoy the season without wishing autumn would arrive so you can cool down.

Here are four ways to keep cool this summer that don't include sitting in front of an open fridge:

Drink plenty of water

Your body is more likely to become dehydrated during hot weather, so it's really important that you drink enough water throughout the day. If you are dehydrated, your body can't perspire properly, which is a vital part of its cooling process. Perspiration evaporates from the skin on hot days, helping to keep you cool. Be sure to carry bottled water with you and to try and drink eight glasses a day.

Use cooling skincare products

It can be tempting to skip your usual skincare products in hot weather as they can make your skin feel weighed down. However, this can upset the balance of your skin, so you should still maintain the same level of care.

You can do this with products that have a cooling effect and fragrance, with citrus and mint scents being perfect for hot weather. Try our Body Wash in Greentea and Grapefruit or Wild Lemongrass to keep your skin feeling fresh. We also have matching Body Lotions

Wear light layers

Wearing light layers not only helps you feel cool because of the thinner fabrics, you can also remove layers as and when you need to. If you're enjoying a day out, this is ideal as you will be ready for hot weather, as well as the slightly cooler temperatures in the evening. You should also wear light colours as these will reflect heat away from you.

Have a cool bath

You might not think that baths are the best way to cool down during the summer, but they can be the perfect thing to help refresh you. Rather than filling your tub with steaming water, opt for a lukewarm temperature instead. This will feel nice and cool without being uncomfortable - especially if you pop some of our Greentea and Grapefruit Bath Foam in the water as well.
