When it comes to planning a bit of romance for Valentine's Day, it can get a bit boring and repetitive. While a slap-up meal, a box of chocolates and a bunch of flowers are nice, they aren't very original ideas for the romantic day of the year.
Rather than falling back on old habits when it comes to February 14th, why not step it up a gear and think of something a bit more alternative? This is sure to show your partner how much you care, as well as make it a Valentine's Day to remember.
Here are some great ideas for romance with a bit of a difference:
Write them love letters
With technology taking over our lives, the art of writing love letters to your partner is getting lost. Rediscover your romantic side by putting together a year's worth of love letters for your loved one to open over the next 12 months.
This can mean writing one for each month or drafting letters for certain events that are likely to take place over the next year, such as when your partner has had a bad day.
You can even take it one step further and get a gift that corresponds with each letter, such as a bottle of foam bath when they need to relax or a bottle of wine to make a bad day better.
This may take some time to put together, but it will ensure that your partner is reminded of how special they are to you for more than just one day out of the year.
An evening under the stars
Rather than heading to the cinema or your usual restaurant, why not get away from the commercial side of Valentine's Day and get back to nature?
Not only will this give you a chance to enjoy being outdoors, you'll also get to talk to your loved on uninterrupted, allowing you both to reconnect.
Pick a place to go in the evening that will give you a clear view of the stars, pack a picnic, grab a blanket and several layers and settle in together for dinner and a great view.
Make sure you take some candles with you too, as this will provide you with a bit of extra light once the stars go down without disrupting the cosy, romantic atmosphere.
Do something active
Valentine's romance doesn't need to be confined to the evening, you can make the most of the day too - especially as it falls on a Sunday this year.
A great way to do this is to head out for an active day. While you might want to try your hand at rock climbing or kayaking, it's important to remember that your loved one might not be comfortable with some activities.
Tailor the day to both of you, ensuring that there is plenty to do at a pace you can both stand. Something like a nature walk or a day on your bikes could be great - so long as it's dry - and take you away from busy towns and cities.
Take lunch and a camera with you and just enjoy spending the day together doing something different.
You could even help your partner recover from an active day by running them a bath once you get home. Pop one of our bath melts in for a moisturising bath that comes complete with romantic petals.
