When the sun is shining, there's nothing better than enjoying the great outdoors and getting the chance to appreciate beautiful nature. Although we might not be quite so lucky in terms of our weather in the UK, we do have some simply stunning examples of gorgeous gardens that are open for everyone to enjoy.

If you only have a balcony or a small yard or terrace at home, an afternoon spent wandering among the rose gardens of one of the country's majestic stately homes can allow you to experience the joys of flowers, trees and water features, without any of the hard maintenance work.

And if you are lucky enough to have your own garden, these grounds can provide some excellent inspiration for your own little plot of land back home.

Here's our pick of some of Britain's best gardens to visit this summer:

Kew Gardens, Richmond-upon-Thames

Located just outside of London, Kew Gardens is one of the nation's gems. It's actually a UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to the fact that it is home to the largest and most diverse collection of plants in the world.

The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, to give them their full title, are home to some absolutely breathtaking gardens, which are perfect for losing yourself in during a summer afternoon's stroll. Take in all of the beautiful hues of the flora and fauna on display, and inhale those evocative floral scents.

If you'd love to be able to bottle some of that heady fragrance to take home with you, remember that's essentially what our collection of floral Reed Diffusers are all about; scents inspired by nature to fill your home with its wonderful fragrance all year round. Our Sweet Pea & Rose Reed Diffuser, which combines two delightful floral aromas, would help you to recreate that smell.

Make sure to visit Kew's iconic Palm House too; with its rainforest-like climate, this magnificent Victorian greenhouse features exotic plants from all over the world.

The Gardens at Hampton Court Palace, Herefordshire

The Hampton Court Palace Gardens provide a fascinating glimpse into 500 years of history. Once the home of Henry VIII, there's the Great Fountain Garden featuring 13 beautiful fountains, the Privy Gardens - a replica of William III's gardens from 1701 - and the Pond Garden, home to exotic plants and fruit trees from across the globe.

Other highlights include what is believed to be the oldest vine tree in the world, and the Royal Kitchen Garden, where fresh seasonal vegetables are grown to this day.

Inhale those evocative floral scents

Although not quite as pungent as the sweet scents of the Rose Garden and other floral displays, the Royal Kitchen Garden has its own unique aroma. Replicate these more earthy, fresh smells with our Garden Pea Candle in a Can or our Tomato & Herb Candle in a Can for a home fragrance product with a twist.

Mottisfont, Hampshire

The gardens at Mottisfont, a National Trust-owned property in Hampshire, are among the trust's finest. During the spring and summer months, herbaceous borders fill the grounds with colour, while the autumnal colours that fill the gardens in the autumn are truly breathtaking.

There are more than 500 varieties of rose in Mottisfont's magnificent rose garden too, along with delightful-smelling lavender, filling the air with a simply lovely fragrance. Lavender is a stunning scent all on its own, but goes beautifully with citrus notes too, so enjoy a little of the spirit of this garden in your home with our Citrus & Lavender Reed Diffuser.

Biddulph Grange, Staffordshire

A little further north than the other gardens on our list, National Trust-owned Biddulph Grange in Staffordshire has been meticulously looked after and restored in line with its original Victorian era layout, providing a thrilling insight into the past.

The topiary hedges here are majestic, while the rockeries, hidden archways and fairy tale-like tree-lined paths are like something from another, more fantastical world.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show

One of the most stunning floral displays of the summer has to be the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where the Heyland & Whittle team will once again be selling our products from Tuesday May 22nd until Saturday May 26th.

Tickets are selling fast for the event, but we've got two up for grabs, along with a luxury hamper and some restaurant vouchers! Read our competition terms and conditions and enter here.
