Strictly Come Dancing Professional and fitness fanatic Karen Clifton shares her ultimate British BathTime with us and reveals how she relaxes during Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals and the live tour. We put a number of questions to her when we caught up.
How do you relax after a long day rehearsing for Strictly Come Dancing?
As soon as a new season of Strictly Come Dancing begins, it’s all go! After a long day rehearsing for each live show I like to return home because let’s face it there’s no place like home... I get straight into my favourite PJ's and odd socks, cook a light meal, light my Cherry Blossom Candle in a tin, sit on the couch and watch telly with my hubby and fellow dancer Kevin.
Bath or shower?
Both. Is that allowed? I love showers and they suit my lifestyle more during the week as I'm always in a hurry so it's just easier for me to be in and out. Having said that when I’m on holiday or after a tough training session I think it’s important to relax and unwind in a bathtub full of bubbles with Neroli & Rose Foam Bath and Bath Melts.
Being a dancer is it important to have regular soaks in the bath?
It is very important for dancers to have a good soak in the bath after a long week of dancing. It releases the tension in the muscles and relaxes your mind. For me, it’s one of the few places I feel reflective and can gather all my thoughts. It puts things into perspective and lifts my mood so I am always happy afterwards.
Do you ever have ice cold baths after exercising?
I usually carry out an ice bath for my legs. It helps with my circulation and minimises achy muscles the day after. An ice bath also eases the overall stress on my body and speeds up the recovery process. Normally I go in for about 10 minutes.
What is your favourite scent and has it changed over time?
I love Heyland & Whittle’s Shea Butter Bath Melts as they’re really nourishing and kind to my skin. The marigold scent is just divine and nowadays I’m a sucker for anything floral so I adore the rose bath melt. These little gems are some of my favourites.
Describe your ultimate bathtime experience?
My ultimate bath experience is lots of bubbles, petals, candlelight, a good book, a cup of peppermint tea and my rubber duck.
Who spends longer in front the bathroom mirror getting ready? You or Kevin?
Kevin wins hands down! He takes so long in the bathroom... he is definitely a water baby. He also takes longer getting ready in the mornings especially when blow-drying his hair to perfection.
What song do you sing in the bath and what is Kevin’s?
My favourite song to sing in the bath is ‘Wannabe’ by Spice Girls and Kevin's is ‘Feel’ by Robbie Williams.
Heyland & Whittle is encouraging the nation to bring back the tradition of British bathtime. Will you share your perfect bathtime selfie with us?
