Keep your skin safe and smooth despite the sun

Keep your skin safe and smooth despite the sun

Did you know that Sun Awareness Week 2018 is taking place this week, from Monday May 14th until Sunday May 20th?

The annual event is all about reminding people how to look after themselves in the sun by keeping hydrated, applying a high-factor sun cream, wearing a hat to protect your head from burning and trying to stay in the shade during the hottest parts of the day.

All of this is important to reduce your risk of skin cancer, which affects around 100,000 people in the UK every year, according to data from the British Skin Foundation.

It's always important to get any moles that you're worried about checked out by your GP and to do all you can to avoid sunburn, but there will be times when you get caught out by our ever-unpredictable Great British weather.

Here are a few steps you can take to soothe your skin after spending too long in the sun:

Moisturise and nourish sunkissed skin

Do all you can to avoid sunburn

The heat from the sun can be incredibly drying to our whole bodies, including our hair and skin, which is why it's so important to keep hydrated on hot summer days. You need to drink plenty of water - aim for at least eight glasses a day when it's very warm - but also provide your skin with some extra moisture from outside, especially when it's a little burnt.

After your bath or shower, lock in all the moisture you've just added to your skin by using one of our Body Lotions. Our Greentea & Grapefruit Body Lotion in particular is incredibly good for the skin thanks to its refreshing and revitalising citrusy notes, while its blend of almond oil, vitamin E, lavender and comfrey is beautifully soothing.

Apply it to your skin throughout the day too if it begins to feel a little dry for extra moisture and essential nourishment.

Scrub away dead, peeling, flaky skin

After a time, any sunburnt patches of skin will begin to peel. Although this is an important part of the healing process, peeling skin can look pretty unsightly. However, using one of our sea salt and bamboo-based Body Scrubs can help you to get rid of those dry, dead flakes, leaving you with a soothed, smoother result.

Our Greentea & Grapefruit Body Scrub provides you with the same gorgeous scent as your Body Lotion, but with naturally exfoliating sea salt granules to help remove any dead skin, and bamboo to provide that silky-smooth finish.

Keep this up as part of your routine for a few days, or until you begin to notice a difference - your poor flaky skin will be dramatically improved in no time.
