Why we use castor oil in our products

Why we use castor oil in our products

Our products contain as many natural ingredients as we can squeeze into them because we believe this makes them much better quality, as well as ensuring they give amazing results. All of our beauty products contain wonderful natural fragrances, moisturisers and oils that help deliver great results that you can trust.

One ingredient that we love using and that you'll find in our traditional soaps is castor oil. This beautiful oil comes from the seeds of the castor plant and has long been used for health and beauty purposes due to its many benefits.

Not only does it help to create the wonderfully soft lather that you get from all of our soaps, it can help with other things too. Here are some of the reasons we like to make the use of castor oil our products:

Wonderful moisturisation

Castor oil helps to really moisturise the skin, whether you use it in a soap, cream or as it is. It penetrates several layers of the skin to help keep it plump and healthy, while also promoting the production of collagen and elastin. These work to maintain the health and appearance of your skin, avoiding premature ageing.

After using castor oil, your skin will feel soft and smooth without being oily, while it will also look bright and healthy. This makes it ideal for those who suffer from dry skin, as it can help to heal problem areas and stop your skin from looking scaly or flaking.

Soothes the skin

This great oil can also help to soothe your skin, easing irritation or burns. It is great for using after sunburn as it has anti-inflammatory properties, which help to reduce swelling and redness. Not only will this mean that your skin heals much faster, but can also offer you relief from discomfort.

Similarly, if you suffer from eczema or psoriasis, castor oil can help to reduce redness and itching, as well as helping with dry skin. This could mean that you develop fewer problems areas with continued use.

Reduces scars and marks

Our products contain as many natural ingredients as we can squeeze into them

If you have scars or stretch marks on your skin, regularly using products that contain castor oil could help to reduce their visibility. Castor oil is full of fatty acids, which is why it is such a good moisturiser. These deeply penetrate the skin, including scar tissue, helping to promote the growth of healthy cells.

This can help scars to reduce in size and make them harder to see, with the same thing happening to stretch marks. While the oil can't make scars vanish completely, it can make a big difference over time.

It can also help fight against new stretch marks from forming, making it a great oil to use on your skin if you're expecting.

Stops acne breakouts

You might not think that an oil is going to be beneficial when it comes to dealing with acne, but natural oils do so in a number of ways. For starters, using them on your skin in washes and moisturisers helps to balance it out and ensure that it isn't producing too much or too little oil of its own.

When it comes to castor oil, it is high in ricinoleic acid, which draws dirt, bacteria, excess oil and dead skin cells out of the skin. These are the things that can build up, resulting in spots, blocked pores and blackheads. Because the oil also penetrates the skin so deeply, it helps to reduce these in the lower levels of the skin as well as on the surface. With continued use, this can mean you suffer from fewer breakouts, while the anti-inflammatory properties will reduce the appearance of existing spots.

Superior cleansing

Castor oil is absolutely fantastic at cleansing the skin, which is why we use it in our soaps. It naturally contains a compound called undecylenic acid, which helps to lift dirt and impurities while also disinfecting the skin.

This means it can help remove makeup, as well as dirt and pollution, which can build up on your skin throughout the day. Just one of our soaps can be used on your hands, body and face, meaning you can benefit from great cleansing properties all over.
